MEET-UP PLANNING

This is the weekly post where members can plan meetups for movies, conventions, and misc events.

And with the DVD out in several countries, and about to be release in several others, this is the perfect reason for a meet-up!

THIS THREAD IS NOT THE PLANNING OR DISCUSSION AREA; just specify the city you're in and link to a post in your personal journal where your neighbors can plan the meetup with you.

If you're not organizing a meet-up, but looking for other GQMFs near you doing one, check out the list of communities dedicated to these meet-upsunder the cut. )

RECAP

For those of you who were able to document your meetups, please post your pics and recaps here, or better yet link to a post in your own LJ so that the comment pages here don't break the internet.

Even if you didn't take any pictures, please feel free to recount the awesomeness of meeting with other GQMF's, any funny conversations or accidental meeting of other Star Trek geeks fans. lol

Punch it!

"My Little Pony" may become the first Hasbro property to spawn a TV series for the upcoming kids cable channel, a joint venture between Hasbro and Discovery.

The newly formed Hasbro Studios, which is designed to be a main supplier of the new channel, has put "Pony" on a fast development track.

Hasbro Studios had been looking into several Hasbro brands as potential series vehicles. "Pony" emerged as a frontrunner following the strong showing of one-hour special "My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure" on the Disney Channel Nov. 6.

"The runaway success of 'My Little Pony' on the Disney Channel affirms our belief in the long-term value of this project," said Hasbro Studios president Stephen Davis.

"Pony" will undergo a multi-platform development for TV as well as video game and other digital extensions.

Star of stage, screen and television, Edward Woodward has died. The English actor was 79 years old and made his stage debut in London in 1954 in "Where There's A Will", joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1958, and had his Broadway debut in 1963. He was perhaps best known for his roles as "Sgt Howie" the hapless policeman in the original (and non sucky) "The Wicker Man" and the American television series, "The Equalizer", which he won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an actor in a drama series for his portrayal of "Robert McCall" in 1987 and as "Breaker Morant" in the new wave Australian film of the same name. In recent years he starred in "Hot Fuzz" as "Tom Weaver" and appeared on "EastEnders" the popular and long running British soap opera.

[quote] His agent Janet Glass said the veteran of stage and screen had been ill for several months and passed away in hospital surrounded by members of his family. "I knew him a very long time and he was a superb human being," Glass told Reuters. "That integrity shone through in the roles he played. I can't ever remember, in all the productions he undertook, anyone having a bad word to say about him and he never had anything bad to say about anyone else either."

As well as on-screen success, Woodward was a proven singer, and was singled out by Laurence Olivier to appear in the title role of a National Theater production of "Cyrano". According to Glass, Noel Coward also chose the actor to star in the Broadway show "High Spirits," the musical version of "Blithe Spirit," and Woodward recorded 12 solo albums.[end quote]

[quote]"The Wicker Man" director, Robin Hardy, said of Woodward today: "He was one of the greatest actors of his generation, without any question, with a broad career on American television as well as British film. He was an absolute star of The Wicker Man. He was an extremely nice human being.[end quote]

He was a real actor who dedicated his life to the craft. He is survived by his wife Michele Dotrice and four children.

Thompson plans to sell a line of jewelry and scented candles. The wax from the candles can be used as a massage moisturizer. The new adventure is very personal.

"My designs, my candles, my jewelry, all of it is 100 percent me," said Thompson, from the comfort of Jaffi's, the boutique in Neptune Beach where her modeling career began.

The candles come in a variety of scents. The names read like her monthly travel itinerary: Hong Kong Blossoms; London Hot Tea and Ginger; Los Angeles Lilly; Milan Melon; Paris and Berries; and Central Park.

"Everything is literally touched by my hands," said Thompson. "It's all me. They're my babies. I love them."

So, what about the name, Supermodel?

"I've tried to make my collection real. It's stuff that I love and I would wear and I'm a supermodel so I was thinking, 'Hey! Supermodel.' It's easy."

"It's very exciting to see a young woman follow her dreams, not just in modeling community but also as an entrepreneur," said Emilie Christenson. The owner of the store on First Street in Neptune Beach says she remembers the moment when Thompson's modeling career took off in her store.

"I had known her as a customer at Jaffi's," smiled Christenson. "She came in and she said, 'I want to do a photo shoot for you and I will rock it.' I just laughed and thought she's so adorable. Of course we'll use you for a photo shoot. And, she rocked it. It's probably the best photo shoot we've ever done."

The rest is history. Thompson went on to win America's Next Top Model hosted by Tyra Banks. Since then, she's on major magazine covers and traveling the world. In fact, she stopped in Jacksonville for just a few days before flying to some other far-away place.

Thompson will be back in town briefly over the next two weeks.

She's giving a modeling seminar on November 20.

36 New Spoiler Promo and Behind-the-Scenes Pics from Ep. 10 and 11

New promo pics for episodes 10 and 11 of BBC's The Adventures Of Merlin ( even though Merlin himself is more of a sidekick now and not the lead imo ) and it looks to be that the last couple or so episodes of season two look to be stronger and much more on par with season one's solidity if you can even call it that. At least their use of the reset button at the end of most of the episodes is pretty consistent and a true constant that I am sure a lot of fans absolutely love !

Anyhow, onwards with the massive photo post and again, since a lot of you have not seen season two yet or have not watched it online I will post these under the cut to be safe.

Morgana fans should be very happy with these to say the least and Merlin looks to be gaining a bit of much needed muscle.

Listening To:: Lady GaGa - Dance In The Dark | Powered by Last.fm

Twenty-eight-year-old Natalie Horler is the face of Cascada, and it’s her powerful voice which sets the German Eurodance outfit apart in a genre where artists are often interchangeably anodyne. Part girl-next-door, part Ann Summers catalogue vixen, her image is at once fun and assertive with a charmingly cheeky edge.

Third album 'Evacuate the Dancefloor', released earlier this year, has seen Cascada expand their musical range, with some tracks coming much closer in style to the glossy R&B of Lady Gaga than the beat-heavy Eurodance of DDR games and fairground rides. Riding high on the success of the title track and first single, they're soon embarking on a Clubland tour with N-Dubz, Darren Styles and Agnes, which includes a date at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo on 5 December.

I caught up with the bubbly Horler on a long-distance phone call to Germany, where she resides, to get the dirt on Cascada's new sound, their upcoming UK tour and her take on London.

Hi Natalie. Firstly, I'd like to clarify: are you considered to be Cascada, or are you the image and vocalist of what is, in fact, a group?

Natalie Horler: We actually are a group. I work with two producers [Yanou and Manian] and the three of us make up Cascada. They just don't come on tour, that's all; I do the whole live bit and they do all the producing. They've always chosen to stay low-profile where I've always been the face of everything, that's why sometimes there's a misconception.

What about the song-writing, is that a collective process?

NH: Yes. Although Yanou and Manian do most of that... Yanou is the brains behind it.

EVACUATE THE DANCEFLOOR, I'M INFECTED BY THE SOUND... )

MODS: my html was all jacked on my last version of this post. Please post this one?

Slipknot Singer Weds In Vegas

.(Possible wife?)

It was a rockin' affair when the lead singer of Slipknot tied the knot Friday.

Corey Taylor married Stephanie Luby at Las Vegas's Palms Hotel, where the wedding party walked down the aisle to Metallica's "For Whom The Bell Tolls." (Should have been "Harvester of Sorrow")

The 350 wedding guests who packed the hotel's Pearl Concert Theater – fitting since the wedding quickly turned into a concert – included Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, as well as Camp Freddy's Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison, who acted as the minister. To no one's surprise, the rockers all took the stage, a source said, and even the groom joined in on three songs.

Slipknot, known for its hard rock and the clown-like masks they wear on stage, won a Grammy in 2004 for their single "Before I Forget."
